Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (ARE&M), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited, the Indian arm of the Italian Piaggio Group.

Under the terms of the MoU, Amara Raja will work with Piaggio India to develop and supply Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) cells and chargers for Piaggio’s electric vehicles (EVs). The partnership will also focus on creating locally produced cells and battery packs at Amara Raja’s Gigafactory in Divitipally, Telangana.

Since 2020, Amara Raja and Piaggio India have collaborated to advance the transportation sector. Amara Raja has produced and delivered 50,000 NMC Li-ion battery packs and EV chargers exclusively for Piaggio, which have collectively accumulated over 120 crore kilometers of usage.

Amara Raja recently formed agreements with Gotion-InoBat-Batteries (GIB) and Jiangsu Highstar Battery Manufacturing Co. to localize LFP technology and NMC technology, respectively. These collaborations aim to tailor Li-ion cells to Indian conditions.

The company is investing Rs 9,500 crores to build a 16 GWh capacity gigafactory in Telangana and is also establishing the ‘ePositive Energy Labs’ in Hyderabad, a cutting-edge research and innovation center.
