ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) announced plans to commission two advanced production lines at its Hazira facility in Gujarat this year. These lines will produce high-quality automotive steel, reducing reliance on imports and supporting the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

The joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel announced that the upcoming production units will replace imports of high-end steel required by India’s automotive sector, supporting the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

The company stated that all products manufactured in these facilities will meet the stringent quality standards upheld by ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel. Additionally, certain globally renowned steel offerings will be produced in India for the first time.

The new facilities—a Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL) and a Continuous Galvanizing and Annealing Line (CGAL)—are being developed with the technical expertise of the parent companies and are set to become operational by 2025. These lines will be part of the Cold Rolling Mill 2 (CRM2) complex at the company’s flagship plant in Hazira, Gujarat.

This expansion aims to cater to the increasing demand for premium, value-added automotive steel in India, which currently stands at 7.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) for flat steel and is projected to grow annually by 6-7%.

Dilip Oommen, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), emphasized the significance of these facilities in addressing the evolving needs of the automotive industry. “The two units mark a milestone in our commitment to providing high-quality steel solutions tailored for the sector,” he stated.

Oommen also highlighted that these new capabilities will allow the company to indigenously produce globally recognized steel offerings, expanding its portfolio and market share in the process. “This expansion is a critical element of our strategy to strengthen India’s steel ecosystem, enhance global competitiveness, and further align with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission,” Oommen added.

AM/NS India is also focused on technological advancements and innovation to meet the evolving needs of its customers. By integrating cutting-edge technologies into its manufacturing processes, the company is able to produce a wide range of value-added products that cater to both domestic and global markets.

It is also making significant investments in expanding its facilities and enhancing its production capacity to meet the growing demand for steel in India. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and quality, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India is contributing to the economic development of India while positioning itself as a leader in the global steel industry.
