ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has rolled out two new products—Optigal® Prime and Optigal® Pinnacle—as part of its advanced colour-coated steel line. These additions aim to strengthen the company’s presence in India’s growing construction and infrastructure segments.
With this launch, AM/NS India becomes the first domestic producer to offer high-end, corrosion-resistant C4-grade steel meeting European standards. The products are targeted at major infrastructure applications, including airports, railway stations, highways, and commercial buildings.
The Indian colour-coated steel market is currently estimated at 3.4 million tonnes and growing at around 10% annually. AM/NS India aims to capture a 25% market share in the next two to three years, positioning these products as a key part of that strategy.
Optigal® Prime is designed for urban and moderately corrosive environments. It comes with a 15-year warranty and is available in finish options such as Silicon Modified Polyester (SMP), Super Durable Polyester (SDP), and PVDF. The product is intended for use in roofing, cladding, and general construction.
Optigal® Pinnacle, the higher-spec version, is suited for industrial and coastal regions. It offers a 25-year warranty and uses PU/PA coatings that resist humidity, UV radiation, and temperature extremes—making it suitable for structures like airports, warehouses, and seafront buildings.
Ranjan Dhar, Director and VP of Sales & Marketing at AM/NS India, said the new offerings support evolving needs in the infrastructure sector. “With the introduction of Optigal® Prime and Pinnacle, we’re expanding our premium steel portfolio to meet the changing demands of India’s construction industry,” he said.
Six versions of the products will be offered, including High Gloss, Anti-Dust, Anti-Graffiti, Anti-Static, Anti-Microbial, and Cool Roof. All use Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium coating technology, providing corrosion resistance up to three times greater than standard coatings.
The products are being made at AM/NS India’s manufacturing site in Pune, Maharashtra. The company’s annual capacity for colour-coated steel currently stands at 700,000 tonnes, with plans to raise this to one million tonnes in the near future.
In line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ push, the products have been designed with environmental factors in mind. They contain no heavy metals or hexavalent chromium, have low VOC emissions, and are fully recyclable.
AM/NS India is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel. The company operates a 9-million-tonne-per-year flat steel manufacturing operation in India, along with downstream facilities and a 20-million-tonne pellet production capacity. It supplies a wide range of steel products, including advanced and value-added grades for automotive, construction, and industrial uses.
