AM Green and SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, have announced a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a long-term agreement on renewable energy supply. This agreement stands as one of the largest in the renewable energy sector.

According to the MoU, SGEL will provide approximately 4,500 MW of carbon-free energy to AM Green’s upcoming green ammonia facilities. SGEL plans to achieve this capacity through solar and wind power projects. AM Green, promoted by the founders of Greenko, will complement this supply with pumped hydro storage to ensure a consistent flow of green energy to its facilities.

The project will be executed in three phases by SJVN, with the initial phase aiming to deliver 1,500 MW within two years. This initiative marks a significant step for SJVN in expanding its renewable energy footprint in India, aligning with its ambitious targets of achieving 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040.

AM Green’s objective is to produce 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030, which is equivalent to about 1 MTPA of green hydrogen. This initiative supports India’s goal of becoming a reliable exporter of sustainable and cost-effective green molecules and their derivatives, thereby accelerating global industrial decarbonization.

Mahesh Kolli, founder of Greenko Group and AM Green, highlighted that this partnership underscores AM Green’s growing role as a global leader in clean energy transition solutions. It also contributes to India’s vision of emerging as a key player in the global green energy market.

Ajay Singh, CEO of SJVN Green, emphasized that this project signifies SJVN’s entry into supplying power to private sector entities, marking a significant milestone in the company’s renewable energy journey.
