Global mobility leader Alstom has been awarded €54 million in contracts to design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission advanced train-control and signalling solutions for two corridors of the Delhi Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in India. The new corridors will be equipped with Alstom’s scalable communications-based train control solutions (CBTC), which are expected to improve capacity, efficiency, reliability, safety and reduce operating costs for operators.
Alstom, a leading provider of smart and sustainable mobility solutions, has been awarded contracts worth €54 million for train-control and signalling systems. The systems will be developed for two new corridors in Delhi’s Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). Alstom’s cutting-edge communications-based train control (CBTC) solutions will be designed, manufactured, installed, tested, and commissioned for the new corridors. These solutions will be integrated with Alstom’s Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) system. It is expected that the integration of Alstom’s CBTC solutions with the ATS system will reduce energy consumption by up to 30% and improve the capacity, efficiency, reliability, and safety of the metro lines. This will lead to lower operating costs for the operators.
Alstom’s 30 years of expertise in radio CBTC has made it the market leader in this technology. The company has been selected for 160 CBTC metro lines worldwide, with more than 90 lines currently in operation. Alstom has already equipped 18 metro lines in India with its world-class signaling solutions. The company has a long-standing relationship with Delhi Metro and has previously delivered over 800 metro cars for its network. In November 2022, Alstom won the contract to supply 312 standard gauge metro cars for the Delhi Metro Phase IV expansion.
The Delhi Metro network is about 391 km long with 286 stations. It has expanded beyond Delhi’s boundaries to Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh, and Ballabhgarh in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Alstom will install its CBTC solutions in two new corridors. These corridors are the Mukundpur-Maujpur (Line 7 ext.) and the Aerocity-Tughlakabad Corridor (Line 10). This expansion will further enhance Delhi’s public transportation network.
