MELPL, the joint venture between Alstom and Indian Railways, has unveiled two significant community-focused initiatives in Madhepura. These efforts aim to improve local living conditions and support youth skill development, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 and 4.
In collaboration with the Impact Guru Foundation (IGF), Alstom has introduced the “Care on Wheels” mobile medical unit to address the healthcare needs of disadvantaged communities. Launched at Utkramit Madhya Vidyalay in Ganesh Asthan, Saugarh-2, this initiative seeks to provide critical health services directly to underserved areas.
The “Care on Wheels” service is set to reach approximately 20,000 residents across six villages surrounding MELPL’s electric locomotives factory. This program aims to create lasting impacts by collaborating with local healthcare providers, community organizations, and government bodies to ensure its sustainability.
Alongside the healthcare initiative, MELPL is advancing its Skill Development Project to enhance technical skills among the youth, including women, in the region. This program offers vocational training aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), leading to industry-recognized certifications. The goal is to improve employment prospects for underprivileged communities.
Additionally, a job fair was held in partnership with the SEEDS Foundation at the Alstom Skills Center. This event aimed to connect job seekers with potential employers, providing opportunities for the rural youth who have completed the training programs.
Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, highlighted the importance of these initiatives, stating, “The success of MELPL is closely linked to the progress of the local communities. Our programs reflect our commitment to enhancing socio-economic mobility in India, ultimately leading to better-educated, healthier families and more prosperous communities.”
