Alstom inaugurates India’s first semi-high-speed regional train, RAPIDX, revolutionizing the country’s rail infrastructure. The train features the world’s first Level 3 ETCS signaling technology and is designed to offer efficiency, safety, and sustainability. It is a significant step towards reducing traffic congestion and promoting balanced economic development, with cutting-edge design, eco-friendly features, and a commitment to enhancing public transport while reducing travel costs and environmental impact.

In a significant milestone for India’s rail sector, Alstom India proudly announces the inauguration of the RAPIDX1, India’s first semi-high-speed regional train service. The RAPIDX1 promises to revolutionize the country’s railway system, featuring advanced signaling technology and a world-first in safety measures with ETCS L3 hybrid technology over LTE.

This innovative train service is designed and manufactured in India, embodying Alstom’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The RAPIDX1 is set to operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph, significantly reducing travel times. The first phase, covering the Duhai-Sahibabad section, is expected to cut travel time by 50%, marking a significant improvement in connectivity.

Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, expressed pride in contributing to India’s rail revolution. The RAPIDX1 will offer commuters a unique experience with its speed, advanced technology, and passenger-centric design. Moreover, it marks a global debut of innovative signaling technologies that will set new industry benchmarks and pave the way for sustainable mobility at scale in India.

Key to this milestone is the introduction of ETCS Level 3 signaling technology, integrating Platform Screen Doors and LTE communication. This advanced signaling system ensures safety and interoperability across the rail network, enhancing the passenger experience. The RAPIDX1’s journey exemplifies Alstom’s dedication to a greener, more efficient, and more connected railway system, setting a new standard in railway travel.

This landmark project aligns with the Indian Government’s ‘Make in India’ vision and its commitment to providing the nation with world-class transportation infrastructure. Designed in Hyderabad and manufactured in Savli (Gujarat), the RAPIDX1’s sustainable and energy-efficient features make it an attractive choice for environmentally-conscious commuters.

Alstom’s collaboration in India is vital for expanding rail networks, reducing traffic congestion, and promoting efficient public transport. The project encompasses train delivery, signaling and train control systems, platform screen doors, and long-term maintenance services.

The RAPIDX1 Regional Rapid Transit System is set to significantly ease congestion in the national capital region, improving connectivity between satellite towns and the city. With this initiative, Alstom and India’s rail sector are driving the country towards a greener, faster, and more interconnected future.
