Alstom, a global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, has successfully delivered the first Metropolis metro trainset for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Phase IV from its advanced manufacturing facility in Sricity, Andhra Pradesh. These fully indigenous trains are engineered for a maximum safe speed of 95 km/h and an operational speed of up to 85 km/h, equipped with GOA 4 driverless technology.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, expressed his excitement during the event, stating, “This is a historic moment for the Delhi Metro as we advance toward the operational launch of the Phase 4 corridors. The first set of trains is being dispatched from Sri City today, marking a new chapter in providing enhanced convenience and eco-friendly travel for our passengers.”
Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, commented on this achievement: “We are proud to deepen our longstanding partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, reaching another significant milestone in our collaborative journey. Our state-of-the-art Metropolis metro trains will significantly enhance the quality of life for citizens and contribute to the city’s growth. At Alstom, we are committed to developing sustainable solutions that endure, and we are privileged to support this transformative project.”
The contract, awarded in November 2022, encompasses the delivery of 52 trainsets, each consisting of six cars. This project aims to serve three DMRC lines, including extensions of the existing Line 7 and Line 8, as well as the new Gold Line 10, which will connect Aerocity to Tughlakabad over a distance of 64.67 km. Production commenced during a ceremonial event in February 2024.
Valued at 312 million euros, the project also involves maintaining 13 trainsets for 15 years, marking a significant shift for India’s metro sector as it will be the first maintenance project for the Delhi Metro outsourced to an original equipment manufacturer (OEM). In alignment with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, these Metropolis trains are entirely designed and manufactured in India.
Alstom’s modern metro trains have catered to diverse customer needs for over 60 years.
