Alstom, a global leader in mobility solutions, and Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM Group) have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly compete for the operations and maintenance contract of Dublin’s Luas light rail network. The joint venture will participate in the competitive tender managed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). The proposal is centred on four key priorities: operational efficiency, passenger service quality, environmental sustainability, and advanced technology deployment.

This collaboration combines Alstom’s global experience in light rail systems with ATM’s extensive expertise in managing complex urban transport networks. Together, the two firms aim to deliver a robust and future-oriented operational model for the Luas system.

Piers Wood, Managing Director of Alstom Ireland, stated, “We are proud to partner with ATM to offer a strong and credible solution for the Luas operations and maintenance contract. Our experience in manufacturing and supporting light rail systems, along with ATM’s operational strength, underpins our commitment to delivering reliability, efficiency, and innovation.”

Alstom has been active in Ireland for over two decades and is the manufacturer of the entire Luas fleet. The company is also currently producing battery electric trains for Dublin’s DART+ expansion project. Since its launch in 2004, the Luas has become an essential component of Dublin’s public transport system, transporting over 40 million passengers annually. The upcoming contract will cover operations, maintenance, and provisions for future system expansion, positioning it as a critical element in the long-term development of urban mobility in Ireland.

Alstom is a French multinational company specializing in rail transport, including the development and marketing of integrated systems for passenger transportation, signaling, and locomotives. Founded in 1928 through the merger of Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques and Compagnie Française Thomson-Houston, Alstom has established itself as a key player in the global rail industry. The company’s product portfolio encompasses high-speed trains, metros, trams, and turnkey systems, reflecting its commitment to providing sustainable and innovative mobility solutions.

In 2021, Alstom expanded its global footprint by acquiring Bombardier Transportation, a move that positioned the company as the world’s second-largest manufacturer in the rail sector. This strategic acquisition enhanced Alstom’s capabilities and market presence, particularly in Europe and North America.
