Airbus plans to grow its direct workforce in India to over 5,000 employees and aims to increase its sourcing of services and components from the country to USD 2 billion within the next two years. Airbus India President and Managing Director for South Asia, Remi Maillard, highlighted that the company’s partnership with India is entering a dynamic new phase.
Currently, Airbus directly employs about 3,500 people in India and sources services and components worth 1 billion euros annually from the country. During the inauguration of Airbus’ new Headquarters and Training Centre in New Delhi, Maillard shared plans to increase the sourcing volume to USD 2 billion over the next two years.
He also projected that Airbus’ direct workforce in India will surpass 5,000 within the same period. As part of its ongoing expansion, Airbus is establishing a second pilot training facility through a joint venture with Air India and investing in a new, 5,000-capacity Airbus campus in Bengaluru.
The company is set to manufacture the C295 military aircraft and H125 helicopter in India in partnership with the Tata Group. Maillard added that the company is collaborating with Indian research organizations to advance the production of India’s first Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
According to Airbus Defence and Space CEO Michael Schoellhorn, “Make-in-India” remains central to its’ goals, with the C295 program marking a historic milestone as the first fully privately manufactured aircraft in India. Schoellhorn emphasized its’ readiness to build on the C295’s success by contributing to upcoming modernization projects for the Indian military, including the potential full-scale production of the A400M medium transport aircraft in India.
