Airbus is set to increase its sourcing of components from India, which offers significant opportunities, according to CEO Guillaume Faury. The European aerospace giant, which recently secured large aircraft orders from IndiGo and Air India, has already doubled its sourcing of components and services from India to 1 billion euros between 2019 and 2024. Faury highlighted that the company works with over 100 suppliers in India.
During a press briefing in New Delhi on Monday, Faury, who also serves as the Chairman of the French Aerospace Industries Association (GIFAS), noted that there is great potential in India. He added, “We will continue to grow our component sourcing and aim to double it every five years over the next decade. It’s a steady pace.”
For the first time in 2023, equipment placed on aircraft and helicopters outpaced IT services in terms of sourcing from India, marking a significant shift. Companies under GIFAS currently procure $2 billion worth of goods annually from India.
Airbus has a backlog of around 8,600 aircraft orders and expects to deliver about 770 planes this year. IndiGo and Air India have collectively placed orders for over 1,000 planes with the company. Speaking about the Indian market, Faury said it remains the fastest-growing civil aviation market globally, with fierce competition among airlines. A high-level delegation from GIFAS, comprising over 60 companies and more than 100 members, is currently visiting India to explore further partnerships and business prospects between the two nations.
