Airbus Posts Strong Nine-Month Results for 2024 with Solid Revenue and Order Growth

Airbus SE announced its consolidated financial performance for the first nine months of 2024, ending September 30. CEO Guillaume Faury noted robust demand across Airbus’ product lineup, driven by strong commercial aircraft deliveries, solid helicopter performance, and improved revenue in Defence and Space, despite global uncertainties and supply chain challenges impacting the aerospace sector. The company is focused on scaling up commercial aircraft production and strengthening its Defence and Space business.

Commercial aircraft gross orders reached 667 units, with net orders at 648, reflecting Airbus’ continued market appeal. The company’s backlog stands at 8,749 aircraft, while Airbus Helicopters recorded 308 net orders, including substantial demand for heavy helicopters like the Super Puma. Airbus Defence and Space saw its order value grow to €11 billion, benefiting from positive momentum in the division.

Total revenue for the nine-month period increased 5% year-over-year, reaching €44.5 billion. Airbus delivered 497 commercial aircraft, including models like the A220 and A350, boosting commercial aircraft revenue by 4%. Revenue from Airbus Helicopters rose 5% with 190 units delivered, while the Defence and Space division saw a 7% revenue increase, aided by growth in its Air Power segment.

Adjusted EBIT for the period totaled €2,798 million, impacted by investment requirements. The A220 program is on track for 14 units per month by 2026, while production of the A320 Family aims to reach 75 per month by 2027. Airbus Defence and Space EBIT decreased to €-661 million, reflecting €989 million in charges due to challenges in Space Systems.

Consolidated R&D spending grew to €2,351 million, with reported EBIT at €2,690 million, including adjustments of €-108 million. Free cash flow was affected by working capital needs for upcoming deliveries and ongoing program ramp-ups, resulting in a consolidated free cash flow of €-877 million.

In the third quarter of 2024, Airbus recorded a 5% revenue increase, driven by higher helicopter and commercial aircraft deliveries. Q3 EBIT Adjusted rose by 39%, reflecting strong helicopter performance and a favorable mix of commercial aircraft deliveries. Net income for Q3 was €983 million, bolstered by reported EBIT and financial result contributions.
