Airbus boosts ‘Make in India’ with component manufacturing deals involving Mahindra Aerospace, Aequs, Dynamatic, and Gardner. Contracts for A320neo, A330neo, and A350 programs aim to bolster global commercial aircraft initiatives, enhancing India’s aviation capabilities. Airbus emphasizes India’s significance as a strategic resource hub and pledges to build an integrated industrial ecosystem. These partnerships add to the $750 million worth of components and services Airbus already procures annually from India, supporting around 10,000 jobs, with an expected increase to 15,000 by 2025.
In a significant endorsement of India’s ‘Make in India‘ initiative, Airbus, the prominent French aerospace company, announced on November 6 that it has entered into component manufacturing agreements with four Indian suppliers. The local firms, Mahindra Aerospace, Aequs, Dynamatic, and Gardner, will play a crucial role in supplying airframe and wing parts for Airbus’ A320neo, A330neo, and A350 programs. Airbus emphasizes that these agreements extend beyond supporting global commercial aircraft programs; they are instrumental in enhancing India’s aviation ecosystem capabilities. This includes advancements in various technologies such as sheet metal, machining, and extrusion profiles.
Remi Maillard, Airbus India and South Asia President, stated, “India holds a unique position for Airbus, serving as more than just a market. It stands as a strategic resource hub, contributing both valuable human capital and essential aerospace components and services. We take pride in extending our partnerships with trusted Airbus collaborators in India—Aequs, Dynamatic, Gardner, and Mahindra Aerospace. This collaborative effort reflects our commitment to establishing crucial elements for an integrated industrial ecosystem, propelling India to the forefront of aerospace manufacturing nations.”
These recent contracts complement the earlier allocation of A320neo family cargo and bulk cargo doors manufacturing to Tata Advanced Systems, marking a continued commitment to Indian partnerships. Airbus acknowledges its substantial annual procurement of components and services worth $750 million from India, and with these latest agreements, anticipates a significant increase in these volumes. The company stresses that Indian-made components and technologies are already integral to every Airbus commercial aircraft.
Airbus anticipates a positive impact on job creation in India. Presently supporting around 10,000 jobs through its supply chain, Airbus expects this number to rise significantly, reaching approximately 15,000 by 2025. This job growth aligns with Airbus’s dedication to contributing to India’s aerospace sector and fostering economic development through mutually beneficial collaborations.
