Airbus and technology firm Critical Software have signed a Letter of Intent to explore the creation of a new joint entity focused on embedded software for the aerospace industry. The proposed collaboration seeks to merge Airbus’ expertise in aviation with Critical Software’s strong background in developing safety-critical and certifiable software. The partnership would focus on embedded systems across various aircraft domains, including avionics, cabin technology, and connectivity solutions.

This move is designed to strengthen long-term software development capabilities in response to the increasing digitalisation and complexity of aerospace systems. The new structure remains subject to further evaluation and regulatory approval.

“Embedded software is becoming more central to our platforms. Building long-term expertise in this area is essential,” said Sabine Klauke, Chief Technology Officer at Airbus. “This initiative demonstrates our commitment to securing critical capabilities through strong partnerships.”

João Carreira, CEO of Critical Software, described the agreement as a natural step forward in the companies’ ongoing relationship. “We are proud to take this partnership to a new level,” he said. “By combining our experience in high-reliability systems with Airbus’ industry leadership, we aim to contribute to the next generation of aerospace innovation—where safety and performance are crucial.”
