Adani Power Ltd (APL) has finalised the acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL), a 600 MW coal-based power project located in Butibori, Nagpur, Maharashtra. The acquisition was completed through the insolvency process for a total value of ₹4,000 crore. With this, APL’s total operational capacity now stands at 18,150 MW.

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai Bench, approved APL’s resolution plan for VIPL on June 18, 2025. Implementation of the plan was successfully completed on July 7, 2025, officially bringing the two 300 MW units of VIPL under APL’s portfolio.

Looking ahead, Adani Power is targeting a total capacity of 30,670 MW by 2029-30. The company is pursuing this goal through a combination of brownfield expansions at existing sites and new greenfield developments. Construction is underway for six Ultra Supercritical Thermal Power Plants (USCTPPs), each of 1,600 MW, at existing locations including Singrauli-Mahan in Madhya Pradesh, Raipur, Raigarh, and Korba in Chhattisgarh, and Kawai in Rajasthan.

In addition, a new 1,600 MW USCTPP is being built in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Adani Power is also reviving work on a previously acquired 1,320 MW supercritical power project in Korba. These initiatives are expected to significantly expand its base-load power generation capabilities.

SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power Ltd, stated that the company remains focused on contributing to India’s energy goals. “Our mission is to deliver consistent and affordable base-load power to help drive the country’s economic and sustainable growth,” he said. APL, part of the Adani portfolio, currently operates power plants across several Indian states and also runs a 40 MW solar facility in Gujarat.

Adani Power Ltd is a major player in India’s energy sector, focusing on coal-based power generation. With a current capacity of 15.25 GW and ongoing projects adding 9.52 GW, the company aims to expand its capacity to 30.67 GW by 2031. Adani Power is committed to reducing emissions through advanced technologies and exploring net carbon-neutral options.
