Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) for developing a 1,250 MW energy storage capacity through pumped hydro storage projects (PSP). The Panaura PSP project is committed to a minimum duration of 40 years. It will be situated in the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh and is anticipated to be completed within the next six years, according to AGEL.

Adani Green Energy has set a firm goal to add more than 5 GW of hydro pumped storage (PSP) capacity by 2030. The company has already begun constructing its hydro pumped storage projects: 500 MW at the Chitravathi River in Andhra Pradesh, 1500 MW at Tarali in Maharashtra, and 1800 MW at Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh.

Hydro PSPs, one of the most cost-effective, mature, and scalable technologies, use solar-generated electricity during the day to pump water, which is then released at night to meet peak energy demand through sustainable methods. This technology provides multiple benefits, including grid stability, peak shaving, and energy management flexibility. Additionally, hydro PSPs offer frequency regulation and reserve generation, making them a key component of a reliable and resilient energy infrastructure.

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) is one of India’s leading renewable energy companies, dedicated to accelerating the country’s transition to sustainable power. A part of the Adani Group, AGEL was established to develop, own, and operate large-scale grid-connected solar and wind energy projects.

With an ambitious vision of achieving 45 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, AGEL is currently one of the world’s largest renewable energy developers. The company has built an extensive portfolio of solar and wind projects across India, focusing on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability to support the nation’s clean energy goals.

AGEL is committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships to enhance its operational efficiency and environmental impact. The company has implemented large-scale hybrid renewable projects that combine solar and wind power to provide a more stable and reliable energy supply.

Its focus on sustainability extends beyond power generation, with efforts in water conservation, biodiversity protection, and community development initiatives. Through its continued investments and expansion, AGEL plays a critical role in shaping India’s renewable energy landscape and contributing to global climate action.
