Adani Energy Solutions Crosses 1 Crore Smart Meter Installations Nationwide

AESL

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has achieved a major milestone by completing the installation of one crore electricity smart meters across distribution companies in India. With another one crore meters scheduled for rollout in the next financial year, the company has set a new benchmark in large-scale smart metering deployment.

As India’s leading Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP), AESL is responsible for installing nearly 2.5 crore smart meters across five states. With an installation rate of around 25,000 meters per day, the company currently leads the industry in execution speed.

The milestone has been reached well ahead of AESL’s earlier target of March 31, 2026. It reflects the company’s focus on accelerating digital transformation in retail power distribution by enabling real-time consumption data, improving billing accuracy, and supporting grid modernisation. AESL’s smart metering programme is aligned with the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which aims to upgrade the country’s electricity distribution infrastructure.

Through its smart meter network, AESL is helping utilities improve operational efficiency, enhance transparency for consumers, and strengthen overall grid performance.

Commenting on the achievement, Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Energy Solutions, said,
“Installing one crore smart meters highlights the strength of our execution capabilities and our close collaboration with utilities and consumers. These meters go beyond basic measurement—they enable better energy management, reduce losses, improve grid reliability, and give consumers access to real-time usage information. We remain committed to supporting India’s transition toward a digitally enabled energy ecosystem.”

AESL’s rapid progress has been driven by an integrated, end-to-end approach. The company has strengthened control and visibility across the value chain through partnerships within the Adani Group, including Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions for smart metering and IoT platforms, and AdaniConneX for local data hosting. AESL has also collaborated with leading meter manufacturers to ensure timely supply and long-term platform relevance.

In parallel, the company is building skilled manpower through training programmes supported by its CSR initiatives, creating a large technician workforce dedicated to meter installation. This combination of technology, partnerships, and workforce development has emerged as a key differentiator for AESL.

AESL began its smart metering operations in 2024 and has reached the one crore mark in approximately 24 months, making it the fastest rollout of its kind in India.

Under the RDSS programme, India plans to replace 25 crore conventional meters with smart meters to modernise the power distribution sector. Smart meters play a critical role in improving demand forecasting, reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses, supporting renewable energy integration, and enabling more informed grid planning and operations.

Adani Energy Solutions Limited, part of the Adani portfolio, operates across key segments of the energy value chain, including power transmission, distribution, smart metering, and cooling solutions. The company is India’s largest private transmission operator, with a presence in 16 states, a transmission network spanning 27,901 circuit kilometres, and a transformation capacity of 1,18,175 MVA.

Through its distribution business, AESL serves over 13 million consumers in Mumbai and the Mundra SEZ. The company is rapidly expanding its smart metering operations and holds an order book exceeding 24.6 million meters, positioning it as one of the country’s leading smart metering integrators.

With integrated offerings, parallel distribution licences, and customised retail solutions—including a growing share of green power—AESL is reshaping how electricity is delivered to end consumers. The company continues to play a key role in advancing a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy future for India.
