ACME Solar Holdings Ltd has successfully clinched its first independent Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, securing a total capacity of 275 MW/550 MWh in Andhra Pradesh. The win came through a competitive tender organized by NHPC Limited earlier this year.
The awarded projects include a 50 MW/100 MWh storage system at Kuppam, priced at Rs 2.10 lakh per MW per month, and a 225 MW/450 MWh system at Ghani, priced at Rs 2.22 lakh per MW per month. Both systems are expected to deliver two operational cycles, each lasting two hours, every day.
In addition, ACME Solar is eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) of up to Rs 27 lakh per MWh or 30% of the project cost, whichever is lower, as part of the scheme. The company views this milestone as a strategic expansion, marking its entry into the standalone energy storage sector. ACME Solar’s current portfolio includes 6,970 MW of power capacity and 550 MWh of storage, with 2,890 MW already operational and the rest at various stages of development.
Rahul Kashyapa, Chief Commercial Officer of ACME Solar, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing renewable energy technologies. “We’re honored to be entrusted with NHPC’s standalone BESS project in Andhra Pradesh,” he said. “This achievement highlights our dedication to driving India’s renewable energy transition by enhancing grid reliability through cutting-edge storage solutions.”
Mr Kashyapa also highlighted the positive impact the project would have on the state of Andhra Pradesh, supporting its sustainable growth and energy security goals. “We aim to deliver a project that sets new standards for reliability, efficiency, and community impact,” he added.
ACME Solar currently manages a total renewable energy portfolio of 6,970 MW, which includes solar, wind, floating solar, and hybrid power projects. Of this, 4,080 MW is in various stages of development, in addition to the 2,890 MW already in operation.
ACME Solar Holdings is a prominent player in India’s renewable energy sector, with a diversified portfolio of 6,970 MW across solar, wind, FDRE, and hybrid projects. With this new development, the company’s operational capacity now stands at 2,731.4 MW, with an additional 4,238.6 MW in various stages of development. ACME Solar is known for its in-house EPC and operations & maintenance (O&M) divisions, which enable the company to deliver projects efficiently while maintaining high operational standards, as demonstrated by its industry-leading capacity utilization factor (CUF) and operating margins.
