The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) Mobility Foundation (AMF) has entered into a partnership with Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a renowned German research organization, to advance research and development in India’s automotive components industry.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed during the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK 2024) in New Delhi, marking a significant step toward fostering industry-focused research, aimed at supporting the sector’s shift towards sustainability, safety, and environmental accountability.
This collaboration will see Fraunhofer Institutes working with AMCA on applied research, focusing on innovative product development and sustainable processes tailored to the Indian auto component industry.
Fraunhofer’s specialists will assist Indian automotive firms in adopting advanced process technologies and implementing sustainable production methods. The partnership will also launch projects on sustainable manufacturing and road safety, leveraging circular economy principles and scalable technologies.
Vikrampati Singhania, AMF Director and Managing Director of JK Fenner (India), views the collaboration as crucial for driving product innovation and sustainability in the Indian auto sector. Similarly, Vinnie Mehta, Director and Secretary of AMF, emphasized how the partnership will enable Indian companies to utilize Fraunhofer’s expertise, achieving higher international standards and fostering cost-effective innovation.
Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, with 76 research institutes and an annual research budget of over 3.4 billion euros, will contribute through its Traffic and Transportation Alliance—a network of 18 specialized institutes dedicated to automotive R&D.
Dr Johann Feckl, Director at Fraunhofer, highlighted the synergy between India’s manufacturing prowess and Fraunhofer’s comprehensive expertise in mobility solutions. Anandi Iyer, Director of Fraunhofer Office India, underscored the long-standing relationship between Fraunhofer and India, expressing optimism that the partnership will tackle India-specific challenges and bring German engineering together with Indian innovation for shared progress.
