Acer, a leading technology brand in the country, has teamed up with Plumage Solutions to open a new laptop manufacturing facility in Puducherry, further strengthening its commitment to the ‘Make in India’ programme. Set up under the Government of India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for IT Hardware, the plant represents a major step in Acer’s efforts to expand domestic production and reduce reliance on imports.

The Puducherry facility, which follows Acer and Plumage’s earlier collaborations in producing computer monitors, AIO desktops, servers, workstations, and power adapters, is part of a larger strategy to localize manufacturing. With an annual capacity of 300,000 laptops, the plant will help meet rising demand from both metropolitan and emerging markets, improve supply chain efficiency, and cut delivery times. The project is backed by a planned investment of INR 50 crore by Plumage Group over the next three to four years.

Inaugurated by senior officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Government of Puducherry, and the leadership of Acer India and Plumage Group, the plant is expected to create high-skill jobs and boost the local economy. The manufacturing setup brings advanced global processes and technology to Indian soil, enhancing product quality and competitiveness.

Harish Kohli, President & Managing Director, Acer India, said the facility is a “strategic pillar” for the company’s growth, enabling faster market response and supporting India’s vision for self-reliance in electronics. Sudhir Goel, Chief Business Officer, highlighted that the increased capacity will help Acer maintain quality standards while catering to a growing customer base. Mukesh Gupta, Managing Director, Plumage Group, noted that the partnership is aimed at building a sustainable and globally competitive manufacturing ecosystem.

Acer, which has been serving the Indian market for over 25 years, plans to use the facility’s output to cater to both domestic and, eventually, international markets. The expansion also aligns with the company’s goal of supporting government initiatives, educational projects, and enterprise needs with products designed and built in India—positioning the country as a competitive hub for electronics manufacturing.

Established in 1976, Acer has grown into one of the world’s leading ICT companies, operating in more than 160 countries. With a forward-looking vision, the company is working toward a future where hardware, software, and services seamlessly integrate to unlock new opportunities for both consumers and businesses. From service-driven technologies and the Internet of Things to gaming and virtual reality, Acer’s workforce of over 7,000 professionals is committed to researching, designing, marketing, selling, and supporting innovative products and solutions that bridge the gap between people and technology.
