Rockwell Automation a global leader in industrial automation and digital transformation, has teamed up with Circulor, a top provider of supply chain traceability solutions, to support Acculon Energy, a U.S.-based advanced battery systems manufacturer, in advancing the next generation of battery storage technology. As the demand for energy storage rises to power the transition to clean, reliable energy, manufacturers are under increasing pressure to ensure transparency and accountability within their supply chains. The International Energy Agency forecasts a more than fivefold increase in global demand for lithium-ion batteries by 2030. This growth highlights the urgent need for battery manufacturers to trace essential materials and minimize environmental impact, especially as new regulations, such as the European Union Battery Regulation and digital battery passport requirements, come into force.
In response to these challenges, Acculon will integrate Circulor’s proven traceability technology and Rockwell’s digital solutions to monitor the origin and journey of critical materials—such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and graphite—throughout the entire battery lifecycle. The solutions will be implemented at Acculon’s Ohio facility and will also help in creating digital battery passports for a wide range of commercial and industrial battery applications.
“We’re excited to partner with Circulor and Rockwell to advance our commitment to sustainable energy storage,” said Andrew Thomas, President of Acculon Energy. “Europe is a key market for us, and collaborating with the best in traceability technology is a crucial step in our expansion. Our goal is to give our customers worldwide insight into the robustness of our sodium and lithium supply chains.”
This collaboration highlights the importance of traceability, beginning from the selection of materials through to production and prototyping. The increased transparency will empower Acculon and its customers to meet upcoming compliance deadlines and address growing demands from consumers and regulators for ethically sourced products.
“As the demand for battery storage increases, so does the need for accountability in how these systems are produced,” said Douglas Johnson-Poensgen, founder and CEO of Circulor. “We are proud to support Acculon Energy and Rockwell in demonstrating that transparent and responsible supply chains are not only possible but essential for the future of sustainable energy.”
“We’re pleased to support Acculon Energy’s digital transformation journey,” said James Glasson, Vice President of Rockwell Automation. “By integrating intelligent manufacturing systems with reliable traceability data, we’re enabling Acculon to scale confidently while ensuring compliance.”
Together, Rockwell, Circulor, and Acculon Energy are setting a new standard for supply chain integrity, product transparency, and sustainability in the battery energy storage sector. This collaboration aims to provide meaningful benefits for consumers navigating increasingly complex market expectations.
