Accelera™ by Cummins, the clean energy division of Cummins Inc. [NYSE: CMI], has teamed up with GAIL (India) Limited, a leading public sector enterprise and major player in India’s natural gas sector, to drive the development of green hydrogen and other clean technologies in India. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), combines Accelera’s cutting-edge hydrogen production technology with GAIL’s extensive natural gas infrastructure to explore potential in hydrogen generation, blending, transport, and storage. The collaboration aims to assess and develop projects across a range of industries, including transportation, energy, and steel.

“Partnering with GAIL highlights the transformative potential of green hydrogen and the versatility of large-scale electrolysis,” said Alex Savelli, Global Commercial Leader – Electrolyzers at Accelera. “By integrating our advanced electrolyzer technology with GAIL’s broad energy infrastructure, we are well-placed to accelerate the widespread use of green hydrogen in India.”

This partnership follows the successful launch of GAIL’s green hydrogen facility in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh, in December 2024, where Accelera supplied a 10-megawatt (MW) proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer system. The two PEM HyLYZER®-1000 units at the site produce 4.3 tons of green hydrogen per day, which is then mixed with natural gas to fuel GAIL’s operations.

“Building on the success of our Vijaipur project, this collaboration with Accelera strengthens our commitment to India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission,” said Mr. Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director of Business Development at GAIL. “Together, we will work toward developing a sustainable hydrogen value chain, helping India meet its ambitious goal of producing 5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030.”

The partnership will also include efforts to exchange knowledge on hydrogen blending with natural gas, develop industry standards, and explore additional uses for green hydrogen technology. Electrolyzers are pivotal in producing green hydrogen by using renewable energy sources, a key component in accelerating the shift to clean energy. Accelera is a leader in large-scale hydrogen production via PEM electrolysis and has deployed over 600 electrolyzer units worldwide. Among its notable projects are a 20MW facility in Quebec, Canada, and a 25MW system in Florida, U.S.
