ABB has introduced the ACS8080, its latest medium voltage air-cooled drive designed to redefine industrial performance and reliability. With over five decades of expertise in drive systems, ABB has integrated cutting-edge motor control, modular design, and digital innovations into this new offering.
Achieving up to 98% efficiency, the ACS8080 leverages ABB’s new MP3C motor control technology, which enhances system efficiency and reduces harmonic distortions by nearly 50%, extending equipment life and enabling significant energy savings. It retains the robustness of its predecessor, DTC, while delivering improved motor friendliness and dynamic performance.
The drive’s modular design allows for easy adaptation to diverse industrial applications. Options like external transformers and sine filters make it suitable for both new installations and retrofitting of older systems or direct online machines. Additionally, the integration of ABB’s Crealizer™ platform enables custom programming for application-specific needs, reducing dependence on external controllers and enhancing operational flexibility.
“Reliability, efficiency, and adaptability are at the core of the ACS8080,” said Chris Poynter, President of ABB Motion’s Systems Drives Division. “Our investment in R&D reflects our commitment to providing innovative solutions that increase productivity while minimizing emissions and operational costs.”
Engineered for durability, the ACS8080 underwent extensive lifetime testing in ABB’s Estonia facility, simulating two decades of operation in extreme conditions. Enhanced sensing capabilities and next-generation control hardware enable tenfold diagnostic data collection, ensuring proactive monitoring and rapid troubleshooting.
The ABB Connectivity Edge Gateway offers seamless connectivity for on-premises or cloud-based operations, aligning with diverse digital needs. Built-in safety and protection features guard against unauthorized access, data breaches, and insecure connectivity, ensuring operational security alongside advanced digital capabilities.
