ABB proudly marks the 20th anniversary of its Shanghai Instrumentation factory, a cornerstone of the automation market’s expansion in China and a key contributor to the nation’s economic development since its establishment in 2004. Spanning 10,000 square meters, the facility has recently broadened its scope to cater to international clients, further solidifying its global impact.
With a legacy of innovation and quality, the factory has consistently advanced the production of high-performance instrumentation designed to measure, analyze, and optimize diverse industrial processes. Beginning in 2004 with a single product—one of ABB’s signature pressure transmitters—it has since expanded its portfolio to include pressure, flow, level, temperature, and analytical products.
“The growth of this factory mirrors the dynamic evolution of the automation sector in China and worldwide,” said Susan Pan, Regional Manager of ABB Measurement & Analytics. “Precision, reliability, and innovation are the pillars of industrial transformation, and we are committed to remaining a trusted partner for customers globally.”
Among its innovations, the Shanghai factory produces some of ABB’s most advanced instrumentation, such as the AquaMaster 4 Mobile Comms, the world’s first electromagnetic flowmeter with bidirectional connectivity, and the ProcessMaster, a next-generation electromagnetic flowmeter offering modularity, high performance, and IoT integration.
Investments in digitalization, smart technologies, and calibration capabilities have positioned the factory as a leader in its field. It boasts the largest fluid and air calibration rigs within ABB, recognized for their extensive certifications and advanced calibration technologies. A 24-hour calibration system and a sophisticated air calibration rig ensure precision across a wide range of applications.
The factory’s achievements have garnered numerous accolades, including the “Manufacturer of the Year” award at the 2023 Instrumentation Excellence Awards for producing a supersized electromagnetic flowmeter with a three-meter diameter. Other honors include the Red Dot Design Award for its Ultrasonic Level Transmitter in 2021 and ABB’s CEO Silver Excellence Award in 2016.
As a global leader in electrification and automation, ABB’s commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency drives its mission to empower industries with cutting-edge solutions. With over 140 years of innovation, a global workforce of 105,000, and a focus on high-performance technologies, ABB continues to enable industries to operate more efficiently and sustainably.
