ABB Smart Buildings Division has announced a new collaboration with the World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) European Regional Network (ERN) aimed at advancing sustainable, energy-efficient building practices across Europe. By joining the European Regional Network as a Regional Knowledge Partner, ABB will leverage its expertise in electrical and automation technologies to collaborate with industry leaders and drive innovative customer solutions.
This partnership provides ABB with access to a network of experts and member organizations, offering valuable insights and feedback. Together, they aim to align with key sustainability frameworks, such as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), while fostering a cohesive approach to shaping building policies across Europe.
The World Green Building Council works to accelerate sustainability in the built environment, partnering with governments, businesses, and organizations to drive systemic change globally. Its European Regional Network comprises over 20 Green Building Councils and nearly 5,000 members, serving as a catalyst for positive change to reduce the environmental impact of buildings throughout their lifecycle. Recent initiatives spearheaded by the network include the #BuildingLife project, developing an EU roadmap with recommendations for addressing Whole Life Carbon (WLC) in buildings across Europe, as well as 12 National Decarbonisation Roadmaps.
Mike Mustapha, President of ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings Division, stated, “Buildings account for approximately 30% of final energy consumption and 26% of global greenhouse gas emissions, presenting a significant opportunity for impact. Our collaboration with the World Green Building Council’s European network will support ABB’s efforts to share expertise and partner with like-minded organizations committed to a sustainable, low-carbon future. Together, we have the potential to advance smarter, more energy-efficient buildings across Europe that foster resilient, inclusive communities.”
Laura Pallares, Head of the Europe Regional Network (ERN) at WorldGBC, said, “We’re thrilled that ABB has joined us as a regional member. The path to net zero relies on partnerships with organizations that share our vision for electrifying the built environment and advancing sustainability. Through our collaboration, we can create opportunities for significant progress.”
Aligned with its sustainability goals, ABB’s participation reflects its commitment to addressing trends like the shift to electrified, urbanized environments. ABB’s innovative automation and energy management technologies are designed to optimize energy use, integrate renewable sources, and enhance building intelligence, enabling customers to effectively meet these challenges while enjoying a more comfortable, personalized living and working experience. This collaboration represents another step in ABB’s sustainability journey, providing products and solutions that support customer sustainability needs while advancing a sustainable built environment across Europe.
