ABB Motion has announced a strategic investment through its ABB Motion Ventures in the AI startup UptimeAI, aiming to revolutionize how industries manage the health and performance of motors, drives, and other essential assets. As part of the agreement, ABB has acquired a minority stake in UptimeAI, although the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.
This collaboration integrates advanced machine learning and expert systems to provide industries with detailed insights into asset performance, predict potential failures, and minimize maintenance costs and risks. By applying AI/ML algorithms to over 1,000 failure modes, the partnership is poised to improve operational reliability and efficiency. The initiative focuses on delivering next-generation asset performance management through AI-driven predictive maintenance and proven industry expertise.
The partnership will initially focus on sectors with heavy asset demands, starting with industries such as Cement, Metals, and Water Pipes in India. Tailored solutions for these industries aim to help businesses enhance operational performance, reduce unplanned downtimes, and boost overall productivity.
“With this investment, we reaffirm our commitment to providing innovative solutions that empower industries to better manage their assets,” said Soenke Kock, ABB Motion Services R&D Manager and Head of Development IoT and Analytics. “Partnering with UptimeAI allows us to bring advanced technology and specialized knowledge to the forefront of asset management, providing decision-makers with reliable data insights to optimize energy efficiency, close operational gaps, and increase both asset availability and profitability.”
“We are excited to collaborate with ABB Motion and combine our AI expertise with their industry leadership,” said Jagadish Gattu, Founder and CEO of UptimeAI. “This partnership will enable us to tackle the unique challenges industrial customers face, such as root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and knowledge management.”
