At WEFTEC 2024, the largest U.S. water quality event, ABB introduced its new UviTec™ analyzer family on October 8. The UviTec series, based on advanced optical sensor technology originally developed by Real Tech (acquired by ABB in February 2024), is designed to provide real-time, high-precision water quality monitoring.
Utilizing patented spectrophotometric and fluorescence techniques, the UviTec platform allows operators to perform lab-quality water analysis directly within process environments. The system, powered by UV/VIS technology, offers rapid detection of a broad range of water quality parameters. The UviTec Liquid Ai analytics platform further enhances this by providing actionable insights to improve water and wastewater management.
Jon Penn, Global Product Line Manager for Continuous Water Analysis at ABB, highlighted the system’s speed, stating, “Traditional water quality tests can take days in a lab. UviTec analyzers can deliver results, such as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD), in just five seconds, compared to five days with conventional methods. This not only saves time and costs but also boosts efficiency and safety.”
In addition to launching UviTec, t is showcasing other innovations at WEFTEC 2024 (booth 4129), including its continuous water analysis portfolio, electromagnetic flowmeters, and pressure and laser level transmitters.
