ABB Introduces ChloroStar™ Family of Chlorine Analyzers for Smart, Efficient Measurement

ABB

ABB has launched the ChloroStar™ family, a suite of sensors, transmitters, and accessories designed to deliver accurate and reliable chlorine measurement and analysis. These innovations enable users in the water, wastewater, and other industries to manage chlorine more effectively, improving treatment and maximizing process uptime.

Chlorination treatment, critical for potable and wastewater quality, is often hampered by sensor fouling and drift, requiring time-consuming maintenance. The ChloroStar™ family addresses these challenges with self-cleaning and durable sensors, modular installation, and predictive maintenance capabilities that reduce sensor maintenance costs.

“Accurate chlorination is essential for safe and efficient water treatment, and maximizing the availability of measurement devices is crucial,” said Nikodem Siwek, Global Product Manager, Continuous Water Analysis, ABB Measurement & Analytics. “The ChloroStar™ family ensures reliable chlorine measurements while minimizing maintenance needs.”

The ChloroStar™ family includes two key components: the ChloroStar™ Digital Sensor and the ChloroStar™ Cell. The Digital Sensor is an intelligent tri-electrode unit for Free or Total chlorine measurement, featuring built-in diagnostics and pH compensation. It integrates with ABB’s InFlow Multi-Cell, a modular flow-cell system that delivers stable measurements independent of sample flow variations. The ChloroStar™ Cell, a fast-reacting direct-contact electrode sensor, uses a self-cleaning design to prevent blockages and reduce operational costs by 20% compared to conventional solutions.

Enhanced performance can be achieved by combining the ChloroStar™ family with other technologies in ABB’s continuous water quality portfolio. The ChloroStar™ sensors can be used with the versatile AWT420 dual-channel transmitter, which measures a range of parameters and can integrate traditional analog or smart digital EZLink™ sensors. Features like Dynamic QR assistance, dual-sensor validation, and auto pH correction provide reliable control of disinfection measurement.

For easy access to chlorine sensor data, the EZLink™ Connect App offers Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones or tablets, enabling quick data sharing and tracking maintenance tasks. The EZTest 100 handheld chlorine photometer provides rapid, accurate analysis of process samples in the field, meeting industry standards.
