ABB India is upgrading its historic Faridabad facility, a cornerstone of its IEC LV motors production, to better align with sustainability goals while boosting production capabilities. Established in 1951, the facility has evolved into a center for manufacturing high-energy-efficient motors such as IE3 and IE4, alongside specialized motors like flameproof, smoke extraction, crane duty, and brake motors. These motors are integral to various industries across India, serving as reliable workhorses in numerous sectors.
The 36,000 square meter facility is embracing renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies to minimize its carbon footprint. In 2023, the plant achieved its RE100 commitment by eliminating Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions through the use of renewable electricity, including 180 MWh of in-house solar power generation. This commitment to sustainability has earned the facility the prestigious ‘Platinum level Green Factory Buildings’ certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). Furthermore, the plant has reduced waste sent to landfills by approximately 99%, aligning with ABB’s goal of zero waste to landfill.

Sanjeev Arora, President of ABB India’s Motion Business, said, “The recent upgrades at our Faridabad plant not only mark a significant milestone in our journey but also reinforce our commitment to advancing both technology and sustainability. Our focus on energy-efficient motors has seen IE3 and IE4 motors make up half of our motor orders, while specialized motors like flameproof motors are enhancing safety across India. Through investments in community building and eco-friendly solutions, we aim to meet evolving customer needs and contribute positively to the environment.”
The Faridabad facility plays a vital role in ABB India’s strategy to enhance local manufacturing, productivity, and quality, essential for maintaining global competitiveness. The integration of advanced technologies, digitalization, and automation will improve cost-efficiency and performance, while positioning ABB to seize emerging opportunities in sectors such as data centers, pharmaceuticals, and bioethanol.
