ABB and Titagarh Forge Strategic Alliance for Metro Projects in India

ABB and Titagarh Rail Systems have announced a strategic partnership focusing on supplying propulsion systems for metro projects across India. This collaboration aligns with India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, showcasing an early triumph with orders for metro coaches in Gujarat.

Titagarh, known for manufacturing and servicing passenger rolling stock and metro coaches, and ABB, a leader in propulsion systems for railways, are combining their expertise to establish a strong presence in the Indian market. The partnership aims to expand into other projects and countries, leveraging their combined potential and synergy.

The agreement includes Titagarh‘s acquisition of ABB‘s propulsion systems, manufacturing rights for traction motors, and the complete technology transfer of GoA 4 (Driverless Metro) TCMS software. Edgar Keller, President of Traction Business at ABB, emphasised the partnership’s role in expanding ABB’s footprint in India and promoting sustainable rail transportation with locally produced technology.

The focus on developing local TCMS capabilities, including driverless systems, aligns with India’s vision of self-reliance. The partnership has already commenced with propulsion equipment and TCMS orders for metro coaches in Gujarat, marking a significant step in India’s industrial progress.
