1GV, the flagship life sciences campus developed by Rx Propellant in Genome Valley, Hyderabad, has been awarded the EDGE Advanced Certification by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a part of the World Bank Group. This achievement highlights the campus’s leadership in energy efficiency, water conservation, and use of low-emission construction materials—setting a benchmark for sustainable infrastructure in the life sciences sector.

Designed to support pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CDMO, and medical technology companies, 1GV offers advanced research infrastructure with a focus on environmental responsibility. The campus delivers energy savings of 44%, water savings of 79%, and significantly reduces embodied carbon through its construction choices. These sustainability measures result in long-term cost advantages for occupiers, while contributing to lower environmental impact.

With this recognition, 1GV becomes the second speculative life sciences development worldwide to be certified under the EDGE Advanced standard, following 3GV—another Rx Propellant project in Genome Valley that became the first to receive this distinction. In addition, Rx Propellant’s upcoming Navi Mumbai Research District (NMR District)—slated to be the largest planned life sciences hub in the Mumbai region—has already secured pre-certification under the EDGE Advanced program. Phase 1 of the NMR District, covering 400,000 sq. ft. out of a planned 2.5 million sq. ft., is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

These milestones reflect Rx Propellant’s approach to building next-generation infrastructure that combines cutting-edge scientific capability with climate-conscious design. With high-spec laboratory space, clean utilities, and R&D-ready facilities across its campuses, the company aims to meet the evolving needs of the life sciences industry while supporting India’s sustainability goals.

Praveen Kumar, Director at Actis, stated “Sustainability is at the core of what we build. The recognition of 1GV and 3GV as the world’s first two speculative life sciences campuses to earn EDGE Advanced certification is a proud achievement and reinforces our vision for infrastructure that is both future-proof and climate-resilient.”

Phani Rama Krishna, Senior Vice President – ESG at Rx Propellant, said “The certification of 1GV underlines our consistent commitment to embedding sustainability into every stage of planning, design, and execution. Our goal is to support innovation with infrastructure that is not only high-performance but also environmentally sound.”

James Magor, Director – Sustainability at Actis, added “Rx Propellant has emerged as a leader in green real estate for the life sciences sector, both within India and globally. That the first two EDGE Advanced-certified speculative campuses have come from their portfolio is a strong endorsement of their forward-looking approach to sustainable development.”

Rx Propellant is India’s foremost developer of life sciences infrastructure, focused on building research and manufacturing ecosystems tailored to high-growth science sectors. Supported by Actis, the company is developing world-class life sciences campuses across Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, and soon Bengaluru, with a pipeline of over 2.8 million sq. ft. All facilities are developed with a commitment to sustainability, operational excellence, and scalability.
