‘Now’ is the best time to commence. This is an old adage which is relevant in the majority of cases. Procrastination is a usual habit that has creeped into the majority of us, owing to a bit of lithargy and laziness, ingrained into us. The surrounding and the social quotient in our country is in a major way responsible for it. We are not a country like Israel, where life has been tough since the formation of the country. Even today, the situation around it is not conducive to peace. There is a lot of threat and concern, which has made its people tough and agile. Israel is a small country in size but big on innovation. The people of Israel have found creative ways to survive since they had (have) no other choice. If we push somebody towards the wall, he has no other option but to climb. In India, we seldom have such situations. This is the main reason, we as a country, could not build a strong innovation and hard working culture into the majority of our people. Albeit, there are a few pockets and areas where the feeling of necessity has been well felt and innovation got nurtured – such pockets have shown remarkable growth and happiness.
Change is the way of life. We come across various suggestions and improvements in our daily walk of life, and park such ideas at bay, most of the times, thinking that we would eventually implement them when an opportune time would come. In the majority of cases, this gets procrastinated until it becomes a crisis. The best time to commence such things is ‘Now’ – in the sense being pro-active rather than reactive. A stitch in time saves nine. Inaction could at times, be our biggest enemy. Hence, it is advisable to commence the action without delay, to enable us to reap the benefits in the long run.
The concept of ‘Now’ is relevant in reference to avoiding lithargy and procrastination. It is related to the fact that, if we are avoiding it for no valid reason, we should not. Just do it. This triggers development and progress on concurrent areas and corresponding to it, we would see noticeable growth. There are a lot of occasions, where based on the actions we take, certain other steps follow. Inaction in the first step in fact, delays the entire chain of activities, resulting in impeding the growth, which is harmful and detrimental to our larger vision. We see majority of such actions and opportunities in the society, and at times get upset on it, leading to frustration and anger. We need to ask ourselves, what can we do about it and in what way can we be a contributor to avoid inaction. This demands participation, which often is weak. Everybody wants somebody else to bell the cat, since there is always some risk associated with it. Can we influence things so that an action can be performed ‘Now’ ?
