Our daily routine consists of various tasks at hand and some crisis management. There are many moments in our schedule where unforeseen tasks fall on our lap unannounced, and take away majority of our time. More than the time taken to plan extempore and undertake such tasks, there is also some attention spanning time that they take up, which disturbs our pre-scheduled routine. On the other hand, we have lethargy also at times, giving us an inviting call, that we seldom have intent and ability to resist. This is an area that we need to correct to ensure that we do allow lethargy to seep into our life. The easiest way to help accomplish it is to keep ourselves busy doing something for somebody (if not for self) as a pro-bono and selfless service when we have spare time. This not only helps us recharge our spirits but also enables us to derive satisfaction owing to gratification attached to assistance given to somebody who is in need. This feeling of gratification is awesome. Additionally, this also conveys trust and benevolence to the recipient of the service, rubbing him on the right side to consider continuing this cycle of benevolence to others, when he gets an opportunity. This way, the effort is contagious.
They say an empty mind is a devil’s mind. Hence, keeping oneself unoccupied is dangerous. Many times, it is not very obvious for us to consider helping anybody unknown without any gain – this is an inherent quality in all of us. We usually ask the first question, why should we help, what do we gain, before even attempting to help. It is in our interest to let go of this attitude and be ready to help irrespective of whether we gain anything in return or not. If we are able to harness this attitude, it can go a long way in helping us benefit from it, at large. This works miraculously. The moment we extend a selfless help, things just fall in place for us. It is as though an unknown force works in our favour to ensure that we do not face difficulties in our tasks. This peps us up and brings smile and satisfaction on our face, in turn instilling positivity into us. Positive thoughts breed more positive thoughts and help generate an aura around us where negativity is absent. This means that we have no (usual) bottlenecks in our path, thereby helping us win our battles with ease and assist us in marching forward in our journey of accomplishments.
The other subtle advantage of being busy is to enable us to learn new things owing to the exposure and participation in new areas. Additional wisdom always comes handy in moments of problem solving and assistance. In a way, it also helps us to hone our skills and gain expertise into specific tasks which otherwise would have remained unattended. We become equipped to train and mentor others thereby ensuring that the organisation as well as the community gains from this kind of mentorship. This helps to collectively enhance the quality and performance of society.
