In an exclusive interview with Machine Maker, Tosher Hormusjee, the Founder of Gusti Tool Works, shared the company’s journey from its inception to the present day. As a family-owned business, Gusti Tool Works specializes in manufacturing high-precision special tools, particularly solid carbide. The company’s primary objective is to serve its clients in a variety of industries, including aerospace, mining, railway, automotive, and more. Mr Hormusjee also discussed the future of the EV sector in the automotive industry, expressing his optimism and belief in the potential for growth and success.

Gusti Tool Works takes pride in being listed among the companies that are ‘Made in India,’ with all components manufactured within the country. However, the company sources its raw materials from the European market. The company has obtained several certifications, including aerospace standard and IMS certification. Mr Hormusjee, commenting on the Make in India initiative said, “The cutting tool industry is the backbone of any manufacturing industry, and thus the government has to take some proactive steps in order to nurture this industry.”

Gusti Tool Works is located in Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, and operates its manufacturing unit there. Mr Hormusjee acknowledged the challenges that arise in the industry, noting that the company has been in business for about a decade and faces a significant challenge in importing raw materials. He explained that the company imports all of the materials, tools, and even the oil used in the manufacturing of the components.

The G.U.S.T.I Group of Companies was founded by the Hormusjee family after divesting from G W Precision Tools India, with a determination to achieve the seemingly impossible. The group’s vision is to bring innovation, competence, high-precision quality, and cost-effective solutions to the Indian industry while prioritizing environmental safety. G M Hormusjee, the Founder of the Group, began his tooling career in the 1950s. Following the divestment from G W Precision India Pvt Ltd, the Hormusjee family established the Gusti Group’s Tooling Division (GTW – Gusti Tool Works) and Gusti Aerospace Division to continue their legacy of excellence in the industry.
