For over three decades, N Gandhi & Co has played a critical role in India’s industrial landscape, emerging as a trusted name in the manufacturing and supply of precision balls and specialized engineering components. Headquartered in Mumbai, with a growing footprint across India and global export markets, the company serves a wide range of industries—including automotive, aerospace, healthcare, instrumentation, cosmetics, and defense. Known for its technical reliability, deep inventory, and customer-first ethos, N Gandhi & Co offers an expansive portfolio ranging from stainless steel, ceramic, and plastic balls to high-performance alloys like Inconel, Hastelloy, and Tungsten Carbide. The company’s dedication to quality, speed of delivery, and problem-solving capabilities has made it a preferred vendor for both Indian OEMs and global engineering giants.
Behind this long-lasting success is the vision of its founder, the late Mr. Nagindas Gandhi, whose entrepreneurial journey began in 1971 with a modest trading business in industrial hardware. With no formal engineering background but a sharp technical mind, he identified a critical gap in the Indian market—the lack of domestically available precision components, especially industrial balls used in frictionless applications. Its operation focused on sourcing and trading eventually evolved into a complete manufacturing business in 1991, when N Gandhi & Co was formally established. Mr. Gandhi’s passion for quality and his insistence on delivering the “difficult parts that others avoided” became the company’s core philosophy. His legacy lives on today through his sons and a loyal team who continue to push the boundaries of what an Indian MSME can achieve in global precision manufacturing.
Today, the company is led by his sons, including Tejas Gandhi, the Director of N Gandhi & Co, who carries forward the founder’s vision with a fresh, strategic approach. Under Tejas’s leadership, the company continues to grow by expanding its product offerings and building stronger partnerships with both Indian and global OEMs. His emphasis on innovation, global outreach, and team development has helped the company strengthen its role in the Indian manufacturing ecosystem. Mr Gandhi plays an active role in connecting with customers, identifying their challenges, and offering smart, technical solutions that add real value.
N Gandhi & Co made its own place by producing industrial balls—seemingly simple yet highly complex components used in applications requiring friction-free movement. These include steel balls, ceramic balls, plastic balls, glass balls, and more exotic materials like Inconel, Alloy 20, and Hastelloy. These balls are integral to industries ranging from automotive and aerospace to cosmetics, healthcare, instrumentation, and even defense.
“From a ballpoint pen to a warhead, our products are everywhere, we supply balls as small as 0.5 mm, with a perfect spherical tolerance. It’s a component that seems simple, but its performance is absolutely critical.” Mr Tejas explains.
By choosing to focus on components that few others wanted to manufacture, N Gandhi & Co developed not only deep technical expertise but also a reputation for reliability and precision. This dedication to specialization has been a strategic differentiator, allowing the company to become a necessary partner to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) across various domains.
The company’s major inflection point came post-1991, when India liberalized its economy and welcomed private enterprise and foreign investment. With the beginning of the internet revolution in the mid-90s, Indian manufacturers like N Gandhi & Co could finally reach a global audience and showcase their capabilities. Platforms like IndiaMART, Trade India, and Google allowed Indian companies to connect directly with international buyers, cutting through the old barriers of geography and bureaucracy.
“Earlier, we had to travel hours to meet a customer, explain our offerings, and follow up in person. Now, we’re only a search bar away, after 1997, Indian companies started gaining recognition, and our products were no longer second-guessed simply for being ‘Made in India.’ That gave us momentum.” says Mr Tejas.
By 1996, the company had introduced stainless steel balls into its product line. In 2008, they expanded into tungsten carbide, ceramic, and plastic balls, and by 2020, even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, N Gandhi & Co was working round the clock to support sanitizer pump manufacturers, reaffirming the essential nature of their components.
As the company looks ahead, N Gandhi & Co is not resting on its achievements. Instead, it is strategically expanding its footprint through customer-led development and global integration.
Their first approach is focused on collaborating with Indian arms of global OEMs, encouraging them to source critical components locally and export from their Indian facilities to their international counterparts.
“If a Swedish company has a plant in India and another in the Middle East, why not source the component from India and send it to their Middle East plant? This not only saves costs but strengthens the Indian manufacturing ecosystem,” Mr Tejas explains.
The second strategy is diversification within their existing customer base. By asking customers about other critical components they may need, N Gandhi & Co aims to leverage its manufacturing expertise and trusted relationships to expand into adjacent product categories.
Embracing Make in India Pride in Indian Engineering
As a proud contributor to the Make in India movement, N Gandhi & Co sees itself as a leader of self-reliance and technical advanced quality. The company believes that Indian manufacturers today are fully capable of delivering world-class quality, provided they are given a fair chance.
“Our humble request to OEMs and buyers is simple—give Indian companies a chance, many companies still import components from their parent firms overseas, even when there’s an Indian supplier who meets the quality and cost. The time has come to truly believe in Indian capability.” Mr Tejas shares.
The company also acknowledges the role of the government, while maintaining a practical view. “The government can create frameworks, but entrepreneurs must chart their own paths. We’ve always believed in being positive and proactive. The opportunity is there; you just have to take it.”
Today, N Gandhi & Co might not be a household name, but its products touch millions of lives every day—whether it’s in a pen, a medical pump, an automobile, or even defense-grade equipment. The company’s story is a shining example of what quiet dedication, resilience, and technical know-how can achieve in India’s competitive industrial landscape.
As N Gandhi & Co steps into its next phase of growth, the focus remains on people, precision, and partnerships. Whether it’s training their workforce, investing in new materials, or forging stronger relationships with global OEMs, the company remains committed to doing the hard work that most others avoid.
Their message to the industry and the world is clear support for Indian manufacturing, not just as a sentiment, but as a strategic, reliable, and capable choice. With a rock-solid foundation, decades of expertise, and an eye on the future, N Gandhi & Co is poised to keep rolling—one precision ball at a time—towards a truly self-reliant India.
