Amol Vasant Padhye, the Managing Director of Hydro Pneumatic Controls, the second-generation entrepreneur. In 1981 Vasant Padhye, father of Amol Padhye and founder of Hydro Pneumatic Controls, started his journey. This company specializes in handling Products, Accessories and Components of Hydraulic and Pneumatic.
After completing his education in Mechanical Engineering, Vasant Padhye started his own company with the name of Hydro Pneumatic Controls. He started his business from a 300 sq ft rental place with no back support. While having 15 years of experience in the industry, he started his own company. And took the support of some customers of the previous company for initiation. “Approached few of the customers of the company and together with their support he started the new business”, remembers Amol Padhye. They started their business from Goregaon Mumbai after that they finally settled in Vasai, Mumbai. The journey surely started with challenges as said by Amol Padhye as the resources were very limited at the time. What helped the most was the loyal laborers who were skilled as well as affordable and the continuous dedication of more than 40 years by Vasant Padhye.
After this successful initiation, Amol Padhye joined the family business in 2003. He completed his diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 1998 and BE Mechanical from University of Mumbai in 2001. He is trained in the field of Pneumatics and Hydraulics and also has working experience in Bombay Carbon Dioxide Gas Corporation as a Hydraulic Engineer. His participation in the “Grow Your Business “program with SPJIMR Institute of Management and “Partnership with Germany” program conducted by RWTH university and GIZ, Germany, shows his knowledge in the manufacturing industry.
Following the joining, the most challenging obstacle which he faced was the lack of skilled people in the industry. He is more worried about the skills of labourers than the competition and labels it as present challenges in the manufacturing industries. According to him it is more difficult to start a manufacturing company than a service-based company now as compared to earlier times “Manufacturing company is more difficult than service or any other company” quotes Padhye.
He also explained that nowadays it’s very difficult to find skilled people at an affordable price. Rather than just focusing on the highly skilled people, their main motto is to make the people skilled who have their interest in this industry. “Journey is full of challenges, but we enjoy that challenges”– says Amol Padhye.
Expanding Across Sectors with Innovation and Quality
The products which HPC provides have a wide range. Like Pneumatic Cylinders, Pneumatic Valves & Accessories, Hydraulic Cylinders, Hydraulic Power Packs, Hydro pneumatic cylinders, Boosters and Positioners. With the innovation of such products the achievements of this company are commendable. Achieved ISO certification in 2008 and got approved with esteemed sectors like approved with Mecon in steel sector, approved with commissioner of Sugar Industries, approved with SAIL (Steel Authority of India) and approved with BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd.) . These credentials prove that the beginning doesn’t matter, what matters is how far we have come from the beginning and with what achievements. The expansion of the field suggests the actual accomplishment, like HPC expanded to sectors like steel, power, textile, cement, paper, automobile and pharmaceuticals.
Starting from a ground level they have gained wide recognition with three to four establishments in Mumbai. Now they are also collaborating with well-known brands like Amul Diaries, Nessley’s, Godrej and many more. Not only India, but they are also exporting their products to countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bali. They are also focusing on their branding side which is helping them to promote their business to the next level.
The evolution of the company can be seen through the accomplishments, with no support shows how the will power to something is just needed. The initial 300 sq ft has grown much wider now. The initiative of “Made in India” by our Prime Minister is being followed by HPC making an example that we Indians are and can be self sufficient.
