Rohde & Schwarz, a technology company, is set to unveil its R&S EVSD1000 VHF/UHF nav/drone analyzer at the Airspace World 2023 in Geneva from March 8 to 10, 2023. This analyzer is designed to provide efficient and accurate drone inspection of terrestrial navigation and communication systems, making it an essential tool for civil aviation. Accurate and reliable navigation systems are required for optimizing air traffic control, ensuring public safety, and mitigating aircraft risks, delays, and costs. To achieve this, terrestrial air navigation systems require unique test and measurement capabilities.

The R&S EVSD1000 VHF/UHF nav/drone analyzer is a medium-sized drone signal level and modulation analyzer. It is the only instrument that can combine measurements of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Ground-Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS), and VHF Omnirange (VOR) ground stations in one box. The mechanical and electrical design is optimized for drone-based real-time measurements of terrestrial navigation systems, allowing up to 100 measurement data sets per second.

The analyzer provides high-precision signal analysis in the frequency range from 70 MHz to 410 MHz, a critical requirement for drone-based terrestrial navigation signal measurement systems. It also provides the necessary measurement repeatability to ensure that results from drone measurements can be compared to flight and ground inspections in line with ICAO standards.

Measurements of instrument landing systems (ILS)

At 1.5 kg, the analyzer is ideal for drone-based ground station testing in the perimeter of an airport. It allows the usage of medium-sized drones to perform measurements on ILS/VOR systems in line with ICAO standards. Using the analyzer reduces runway blocking times compared to conventional methods, such as manual measurements or mast measurements. This significantly reduces costs while providing the necessary measurement repeatability, measurement precision, and GNSS time and location stamps. The analyzer can buffer measurement data internally while streaming measurement data during a drone flight via the data link to a PC on the ground. This ensures gapless measurements and easy reporting.

Customers can benefit from the R&S EVSD1000 VHF/UHF nav/drone analyzer in many ways. It offers highly efficient drone inspection of terrestrial navigation and communication systems. The analyzer is an essential tool for civil aviation, providing accurate and reliable navigation systems to optimize air traffic control and ensure public safety. It also mitigates aircraft risks, delays, and costs. The analyzer’s unique design allows for up to 100 measurement data sets per second, high-precision signal analysis, and measurement repeatability. Using the analyzer reduces runway blocking times and significantly reduces costs while providing measurement precision, GNSS time, and location stamps.
