Oerlikon Balzers, a leading global supplier of surface technologies, has launched a PVD coating, BALIMED TICANA, for dental abutments and instruments. The innovative coating is available in the color of human gums and comes with long-lasting functional properties for best dental healthcare.
Dental implants using fixed dental prostheses need to ensure strict quality requirements. This highly wear-resistant, biocompatible coating to dental abutment surfaces makes them more versatile and longer-lasting. BALIMED TICANA also makes it easy for dentists and surgeons to identify dental instruments when treating their patients.
The coating is resistant to abrasion and wear and provides a durable surface with a high coating hardness of HIT [GPa] > 35. This allows long-lasting fixed dental prostheses and ensures high stability for crowns. With Oerlikon Balzers’ patented S3p technology, the very smooth coating enables the fixation of long-lasting implants.
BALIMED TICANA has been tested in 25% sodium chloride (NaCl), and the coating had not worn off even after 34 days of immersion. Its corrosion resistance protects against oral hygiene and offers protection against saliva.
Dental instruments coated with BALIMED TICANA have a hard, highly smooth, chemically stable, and autoclavable surface. Oerlikon Balzers’ coating centers in Balzers (Liechtenstein), Brügg (Switzerland), Cluses (France), and Elgin (USA) specialize in coating medical products and are specifically certified to ISO 13485.
