Fischer Connectors has unveiled its latest addition to the Fischer Core Series – the First Mate Last Break (FMLB) connectors, tailored explicitly for medical devices. These connectors, available in two different sizes and three configurations, are designed to offer unparalleled electrical safety and mechanical reliability. Their unique FMLB feature ensures a continuous ground connection, significantly reducing electrical hazards and protecting the operator and the sensitive equipment.

Fischer Connectors recently launched new First Mate Last Break (FMLB) connectors in its Fischer Core Series, designed for medical devices. These connectors come in two sizes: the ‘size 104’ with a 15 mm diameter plug, and the ‘size 1031’ with a 13 mm diameter plug. They are offered in three configurations, one with 12 contacts and two with 14 contacts. The ground contact is colored red and is longer than the others.

Alexandra Monchatre from Fischer Connectors highlights the versatility of the Fischer Core Series. They offer different locking systems like push-pull, tamperproof, quick-release, and friction fit, making them suitable for various medical device applications. For instance, the Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) System from MicroAire Surgical Instruments uses these connectors in different locking mechanisms for its handpiece and control console. The FMLB feature is crucial for this system, ensuring constant grounding for safety and signal integrity.

The FMLB feature in these connectors ensures a constant ground connection. This longer pin in the plug connects first and disconnects last with the receptacle, reducing the risk of electrical hazards like electrostatic discharge (ESD). This design is crucial for protecting both the operator and sensitive medical equipment.

The connectors, available in three configurations, cater to different power and data needs. The ‘Fischer Core 104 A 130’ and ‘Fischer Core 1031 A 105’ have 14 pins, supporting power up to 9.5 A for the larger size and 8.1 A for the smaller, and 5 Gbit/s Ethernet data transfer. The ‘Fischer Core 104 A 131’ model has 12 contacts suitable for 4.2 A power and 5 Gbit/s Ethernet.

The console of MicroAire’s PAL System features two Fischer Core 104 A 130 receptacles mating first and breaking last with the handpiece cable plug’s longer pin. The Fischer Core A 131 FMLB receptacle of the pedal is installed between the two instrument receptacles.

These FMLB connectors are designed to be durable and reliable. They are IP68 sealed, meaning they are protected against dust and water, can withstand autoclave sterilization, and are resistant to corrosion (tested for 1,000 hours in a 5% salt solution at 35 °C). They also have a long lifespan, with the ability to be connected and disconnected 10,000 times, and feature secure locking systems for safe use.
