Firefly Fire Pumps, a leading provider of firefighting equipment in India, has unveiled the country’s first domestically developed Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) at the Fire India 2024 expo in Delhi. This cutting-edge technology strengthens firefighting effectiveness by using a specialized foam that not only suppresses fires more efficiently but also conserves water.
The CAFS technology utilizes compressed air to generate foam that expands and adheres to surfaces, significantly improving fire suppression capabilities. By forming a thermal barrier, the foam protects flammable materials from ignition, while also isolating flames from oxygen and absorbing heat. This dual-action system is particularly beneficial for liquid fires, where controlling flammable vapors is crucial.
Darshan Mali, Director of Research and Development at Firefly, stated, “Firefly is proud to be at the forefront of firefighting innovation in India with the launch of our advanced CAFS technology. This system enhances the speed and efficiency of firefighting operations by creating a protective foam layer that sticks to surfaces, providing essential protection in high-risk environments. We are dedicated to continuous progress, and our CAFS system exemplifies our commitment to improving firefighting tools.”
Firefly’s CAFS has already demonstrated its effectiveness during a high-rise fire demonstration in Mumbai, where it successfully addressed fire scenarios up to 150 meters. The system not only extinguishes flames but also leaves a foam layer that smothers the fire and reduces the chances of reignition. Integrated with Firefly’s existing pump systems, the CAFS offers versatility for various firefighting needs, delivering powerful cooling effects, extended coverage, and efficient water use, which is critical for minimizing damage and conserving resources.
Rohit Mali, Director of Firefly Fire Pumps, emphasized the company’s dedication to enhancing firefighter safety and performance. “Our goal is to provide Indian firefighters with the most advanced tools available. The CAFS system offers a significant boost in safety and operational efficiency, especially in complex fire situations like high-rise buildings and industrial zones. In regions where water is scarce, this technology allows for superior fire control with less water, representing a game-changing advancement for the industry.”
This new CAFS technology is a significant breakthrough in modern firefighting, offering unmatched performance in addressing the challenges of today’s urban and industrial environments. With the growing risks associated with high-rise developments, industrial operations, and hazardous material incidents, Firefly’s CAFS system provides a vital solution. The launch marks a pivotal moment in the company’s mission to equip India’s firefighters with the tools needed to protect lives and property in the most demanding situations.
