Sandvik Coromant has unveiled the QS™ Micro, a quick-change holding system tailored specifically for sliding head machines, offering unmatched precision, stability, and operational efficiency for small part machining. This innovative system, designed to boost machine utilization, is suitable for various sectors, including general engineering, automotive, aerospace, and medical applications.
The QS™ Micro system features an extensive selection of cutting heads and shank adaptors for easy configuration and rapid tool changes. Its assortment includes rectangular shaft adaptors in sizes from 10 × 10 mm to 20 × 20 mm, along with equivalent inch sizes.
The system also offers cutting heads for general turning, parting and grooving, and threading with options like CoroTurn® 107, CoroCut® 2, CoroCut® XS, and CoroThread® 266. Notably, the CoroTurn® 107 and CoroCut® XS lines include cutting heads designed for Y-axis machining, delivering enhanced stability and efficient chip evacuation.
“One of the biggest advantages of the QS™ Micro system is its ability to facilitate fast, precise cutting head changes, which significantly reduces machine downtime,” said Hampus Jemt, Global Product Manager for small part machining and threading at Sandvik Coromant. “Its modular design also allows different cutting heads to fit various adaptors, streamlining inventory needs and tool management.”
Additional system benefits include a vibration-minimizing mechanism for exceptional precision without compromising process security. With a high indexing accuracy of +/- 3µm, QS™ Micro ensures superior component quality and repeatability in a range of applications.
Effective chip control is crucial in small part machining, and the QS™ Micro addresses this with through-coolant shank adaptors that connect easily to the cutting heads, directing coolant precisely to the insert. “Good chip evacuation is essential to maintain the intricacy of machined parts. Our through-coolant feature supports efficient chip control, extends tool life, and enhances productivity,” Jemt added.
