- The barrel end mill required only eighteen passes, reducing machine time by half owing to fewer passes
- The new product comes with many three or four-flute options for more productivity
Dormer Pramet, the global manufacturer and supplier of tools for the metal cutting industry, has recently released an advanced barrel-shaped end mill. The new launch will be efficient five-axis machining and put to utilization for the aerospace segment, and die and mold applications.
In a press release the company announced, the new S791 end mill cutter most suited for semi-finishing and finishing in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and super-alloys and leaves an excellent surface quality. A first of its kind in design within the Dormer range, S791 comes with a nose radius for fillet milling, and the additional feature of a larger tangential form. The later feature aids in the jobs related to curved and deep wall surface machining.
The barrel-shaped cutter is also designed to have a greater area of contact with the workpiece. The covers more overlap as compared to the conventional ball nose end mills, resulting in increasing tool life and lowering cycle time.
Another advantage of the new launch is that it helps to reduce machine time by half owing to fewer passes. But the usual benefits of a robust ball nose end mill remain intact. The barrel end mill required only eighteen passes as compared to thirty-six passes with a ball nose version, keeping the same machining parameters constant.
High surface quality is achieved by the new S791. This minimizes the time for polishing. For stainless steels and super-alloys, the positive rake angle provides smooth cutting action, effectively reducing chances of work-hardening. An AlCrN coating on the end mill ensures thermal stability, reduced friction, excellent wear resistance, and prolonged durability. As compared to a common two-flute ball nose cutter, the product comes with many three or four-flute options for more productivity.
Dormer Pramet has a comprehensive product program covering both rotary and indexable drilling, milling, threading, and turning tools for use in a wide variety of production environments. The company has 20 offices and dedicated production facilities in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. A highly developed distribution and logistics network cater to one hundred plus markets globally.
