Evolving Foundry Solutions, Rhino Machines’ Journey from Manufacturing to Ecosystem Development

Founded in the early 1980s, Rhino Machines initially began as a project consulting firm under the leadership of Mr Kothari’s father. The company developed a deep understanding of the needs of the foundry sector through its foundation in project engineering and consulting. In 1991, Mr. Kothari joined as a young engineer, marking a significant transition from only consulting to complete solution provider including manufacturing. This move enabled the company to introduce innovative machinery for sand mixing, mold handling, and metal handling systems. A key moment in Rhino Machines’ history came in 1994-95, with a technology partnership with the French company Fondarc led by Mr Renzo Cappelletto. This collaboration strengthened the company’s technological capabilities, leading to its rise in the global foundry market. Rhino Machines Pvt Ltd, was officially incorporated on April 8th, 1996, transforming from a proprietary firm to a professional private limited company.

Sustainability is central to Rhino Machines’ operations, with a strong focus on Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The company’s mission revolves around providing customized solutions for the foundry industry, promoting sustainability, and fostering skills development. One of its early achievements in this area was the development of a patented sand reclamation system for CO2-molded sodium silicate sand in 2000, which introduced a more sustainable method for recycling waste sand. To date, over 60 plants featuring this system have been installed, reducing foundry waste and supporting sustainable manufacturing practices. Since then, there has been no looking back in developing solutions for waste recovery and energy efficiency which could benefit the foundry industry.

Having participated in IFEX since 2004-2005, Rhino Machines is taking a new approach in 2025. This year, the company will focus not on new products alone but on developing the industry’s value chain and ecosystem. The company has subscribed to the “High Impact Entrepreneurs for Emerging Research for Action (HIEERA)” initiative by Empretec India Foundation, which operates under the flagship Empretec framework of the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Rhino Machines aims to demonstrate how MSMEs can move beyond traditional manufacturing to play a pivotal role in value chain development for the entire industry. The goal is to highlight the impact MSMEs can have on sustainable industry growth through their innovativeness & nimbleness.

At IFEX 2025, Rhino Machines will have a shift in focus from product-based displays to thought leadership in ecosystem development and its efforts to foster collaboration, sustainable production, and industry-wide value chain growth. The company will highlight how its holistic approach is shaping the future of the foundry industry. At the concurrent foundry congress 73rd IFC, Rhino is also convening a symposium on circular economy bringing in ecosystem actors together, as an example of how a thinking MSME can contribute to stitching together value chains
