LoRa Alliance announced its participation at Hannover Messe 2024 from April 22 to 26 at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds, located in Hall 14 Stand H06. During the event, the alliance will feature a panel discussion titled “Flexibility in Connectivity for IIoT: Driving Industry 5.0’s Revolution with LoRaWAN” on Thursday, April 25, at 2:15 p.m. on the 5G & Industrial Wireless Conference Stage in Hall 14.
The LoRa Alliance®, established in 2015, has rapidly emerged as a leading open and nonprofit association within the technology sector. It boasts a large and growing membership base, with members collaborating closely and sharing their expertise. The Alliance’s primary focus is on developing and promoting the LoRaWAN® standard, which has become the globally accepted standard for secure, carrier-grade IoT LPWAN connectivity.
This standard offers significant technical flexibility, making it suitable for a wide range of IoT applications, both stationary and mobile. Moreover, the Alliance has implemented a robust LoRaWAN Certification program, ensuring that devices adhere to specified performance standards. To date, more than 170 major mobile network operators worldwide have deployed the LoRaWAN standard, providing global connectivity for IoT devices.
Exhibiting alongside member companies, the LoRa Alliance aims to demonstrate how connectivity plays a pivotal role in industrial digital transformation. Industry 5.0 marks the next phase of industry evolution, emphasizing the integration of advanced technologies with human creativity to boost productivity and worker welfare. LoRaWAN enables these advancements by improving areas like worker safety, environmental protection, and emergency readiness.
At the event, LoRa Alliance members will showcase how LoRaWAN enhances industrial operations, integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure, and synergizes with complementary technologies to maximize IIoT solution benefits. Donna Moore, the CEO and chairwoman of the LoRa Alliance, expressed that the overarching theme of this year’s Hannover Messe is “Energizing a Sustainable Industry,” illustrating how LoRaWAN supports the industrial IoT and Industry 5.0.
Moore highlighted that enterprises are increasingly interested in gaining insights into various aspects of their operations, such as labor practices, devices, supplies, equipment, and facility conditions. They are applying adaptive intelligence to this data to achieve benefits like enhanced efficiency, improved safety, increased productivity, and better worker utilization. LoRaWAN excels in this context by providing access to data that enables continuous optimization of processes, equipment, and the work environment itself.
This optimization ultimately drives sustainability and enhances workforce well-being, supporting the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profits for businesses. The Alliance’s upcoming panel, “Flexibility in Connectivity for IIoT,” will feature experts from Actility, Browan Communications, Disrupt-X, TWTG, and ZENNER. They will discuss the value of the LoRaWAN open standard and its role in enabling end-to-end solutions, scalability, and interoperability.
The panelists will present real-world examples to showcase how data-driven insights lead to operational efficiencies and quantifiable ROI, using compelling case studies for illustration. The Deutsche Messe fairgrounds will showcase a LoRaWAN network during an upcoming event, highlighting various live use cases. This network will offer a public dashboard displaying live sensor data and deployments.
Members of the LoRa Alliance, including MultiTech, Connected Inventions, MOKO Technology, and TWTG, will present live sensor-based demos. MOKO Technology’s LW007-PIR sensor will be positioned in the arena’s locker room for motion detection, while the LW009-SM will be used for parking detection. The LW008-MT will track vehicles near the Industrial Wireless Arena. MultiTech’s continuous, permanent leak-detection sensors using LoRaWAN will be deployed by facility management technicians in the Industrial Wireless Arena.
These sensors will monitor water damage and excessive waste from water leaks in various areas of the arena. TWTG will demonstrate its NEON Temperature Transmitter, monitoring temperature changes and extremes in the fairground pond located south of Hall 2. Booth demonstrations by LoRa Alliance member companies include a variety of innovative applications of LoRaWAN technology.
Actility will showcase its Abeeway Smart Badges for people-tracking at Hannover Messe, displaying select attendees’ real-time locations on the event floor. They will also demonstrate LoRaWAN relay, DLMS/COSEM integration with LoRaWAN, and LoRaWAN firmware updates over the air (FUOTA). Browan Communications is introducing a new telemetry system using LoRaWAN to connect tanks with smart devices.
This system enables real-time transmission of tank level and location data to the cloud, allowing for collaborative monitoring by suppliers and customers to streamline delivery schedules and prevent stockouts. Connected Inventions will present its IoT devices using LoRaWAN for energy-efficient solutions in buildings, offering simplified operations and compliance with ESG and sustainability targets.
Disrupt-X will showcase its ALEF IoT platform featuring an embedded LoRaWAN network server, offering a suite of IoT solutions including the Ignite Shield application for environmental and asset monitoring. MOKO Technology will demonstrate its LoRaWAN-based solutions for industrial safety and operational efficiency, showcasing its GPS trackers and Smart Badge alarm system.
MultiTech will highlight the integration of LoRaWAN with 5G NR network infrastructure for digitization of assets and processes in industry. TagoIO will demonstrate how energy meters and industrial equipment using LoRaWAN connected to its platform can provide consumption information and maintenance insights. Traxmate and Codepoint offer end-to-end tracking solutions for safety and asset management at a fraction of the cost of cellular-based solutions.
TWTG’s sensor product line using LoRaWAN empowers data-driven decision-making for optimizing processes and enhancing operational efficiency. ZENNER will showcase one of Europe’s largest operated LoRaWAN networks, supporting millions of sensors and thousands of gateways, demonstrating LoRaWAN’s strength as a sustainable technology for various industries.
