This EMO Hannover, ZOLLER had a very special section dedicated to the innovation of TWIP Optical Solutions, a Germany based Tech-Startup founded by Dr David Fleischle. His remarkable journey led to the unveiling of CONSIGNO 3D, a groundbreaking innovation which addresses the critical need for precise surface finish measurements across various industries.
The spirit of innovation was in full bloom at EMO Hannover 2023, where industry experts, D K Sharma, the former President of Tools and Gauges Manufacturers’ Association (TAGMA) India, and Vinod Mullasseril, Founder of Indeeya, Hari Shanker, Managing Editor of Machine Maker gathered at the stall of ZOLLER – one of the leading tool management solutions provider worldwide. They were welcomed by Amit Salunkhe, the General Manager of ZOLLER India, who introduced CONSIGNO 3D, a cutting-edge product launched by their partner, TWIP Optical Solutions GmbH, highlighting its potential impact and excellence in surface measurement.
Partners of Precision: ZOLLER & TWIP Optical Solutions
Amit Salunkhe emphasized the critical role this innovation plays in industries demanding exceptional surface finish measurements. Amit stated, “We are thrilled to introduce a product from our partner, tailor-made to meet the exacting requirements of the medical implant industry. Our primary focus is to enhance surface finish measurement and surface roughness analysis. The CONSIGNO 3D by TWIP, speaks of the commitment to delivering excellence.”

Amit furhter introduced them to Dr David Fleischle, the founder and CEO of TWIP Optical Solutions, the key person behind the new innovation. The system at the heart of this revolution is an optical 3D measurement system, rooted in confocal microscopy. Dr David elucidated its versatility, saying, “You can imagine the plastic industry working on a plastic component, and they really cannot work with contrast or a touch-type measuring method. Here we have a trip that can effectively measure a wide range of materials, from plastics to metals, glass, ceramics, and wood.”
One key highlight of CONSIGNO 3D is its ability to measure a wide range of materials, regardless of the material type, reflections, or color. Dr David explained, “It does not depend on the material, and it does not depend on the reflections or the color. You can measure plastic, metals, glass, ceramics, wood, and more.” This adaptability makes it a game-changer for industries seeking precise measurements.
Unlocking New Dimensions: The CONSIGNO 3D
DK Sharma raised a pivotal question about the system’s ability to measure surface finish during the live demonstration. Dr David responded, “For the roughness, you can measure different objects, from very rough objects with higher roughness values to very precise surfaces with roughness down to about 20 nanometers.” He further highlighted its unique optical setup which captures images exclusively when the camera is in the focal plane, ensuring unparalleled precision. It records a stack of images at various heights, calculating the brightest image at the ideal focus point. This results in a 3D representation that facilitates measurements of depths and volumes, offering invaluable insights into product quality and industry standards.

Dr David Fleischle and his innovation CONSIGNO 3D – the confocal microscopy-based optical 3D system’s versatility and precision was one of the major highlights of EMO Hannover 2023. For getting CONSIGNO 3D and other innovations from TWIP in India one can reach out to ZOLLER India. “This partnership shows our commitment to delivering precise solutions where they are most needed. This collaboration will elevate precision standards across industries’ especially the tool rooms”, shared Amit Salunkhe. Together, ZOLLER India and TWIP Optical Solutions are set to make a lasting impact on the industry, raising the standards for surface measurements and redefining what’s possible in the world of precision technology.
