Microchip Technology Inc has achieved IEC 62443-4-1 Maturity Level 2 (ML2) certification from UL Solutions, reinforcing its commitment to secure product development practices in industrial automation and control systems. The certification validates that the company’s development processes meet globally recognized standards for cybersecurity.

As connected technologies continue to expand across industrial, commercial, and residential environments, the importance of robust cybersecurity frameworks has grown significantly. The IEC 62443-4-1 standard defines requirements for a secure development lifecycle, covering key areas such as threat modeling, secure design, implementation controls, verification, validation, and long-term vulnerability management.

The certification confirms that Microchip integrates security considerations into both hardware and software development from the earliest design stages through to product end-of-life. It also demonstrates that these practices are consistently applied across the company’s global design and manufacturing operations.

By meeting the ML2 maturity level, Microchip provides customers with independently verified assurance that its products are developed using structured, repeatable, and audited cybersecurity processes. This helps customers streamline their own compliance efforts, reduce supply chain risks, and prepare for evolving regulatory requirements, including frameworks such as the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act.

Nuri Dagdeviren, Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s Secure Computing Group, stated that the certification reflects the company’s long-standing focus on embedding security into its development practices. He noted that independent validation of secure development processes strengthens customer trust and supports broader industry efforts to enhance cybersecurity resilience.
