Hindustan Zinc Limited has been named among the top 1% of global companies in the Metals & Mining category in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2026, based on an exceptional Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) score of 90 out of 100. The distinction recognises organisations that demonstrate leading performance across environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics.
This achievement follows the company’s ranking as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining company in the S&P Global CSA 2025 for the third consecutive year. The latest recognition marks its ninth straight inclusion in the Yearbook and its third consecutive year in the Top 1% bracket.
In the 2026 evaluation cycle, more than 9,200 companies across 59 industries were assessed, with only 848 qualifying as Yearbook Members. The Top 1% status is reserved for organisations that consistently outperform sector peers on sustainability parameters, including climate strategy, water stewardship, workplace practices, governance frameworks and risk oversight.
The accolade adds to a series of recent recognitions for the company. It received the ‘Best BRSR Report – Manufacturing (Large Cap)’ at the 4th ICAI Sustainability Reporting Awards for its FY25 disclosures, acknowledged for strong governance structures and transparent reporting. Its Integrated Annual Report FY25 and Sustainable Development Report 2025 also secured ‘Platinum Worldwide’ recognition at the LACP Spotlight Awards 2025, ranking first in India and sixth globally among more than 500 entries.
Commenting on the recognition, CEO Arun Misra said the ranking reflects the company’s sustained efforts to embed sustainability across operations, spanning responsible mining practices, decarbonisation initiatives, community engagement and governance standards.
As part of its climate roadmap, Hindustan Zinc signed a round-the-clock renewable power agreement in March 2025 to expand its green energy capacity to 530 MW. The move supports its goal of sourcing 70% of its electricity from renewable energy by FY28 and aligns with its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-approved pathway toward achieving net-zero emissions by or before 2050.
During the past year, the company reduced greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 670,000 tonnes and increased renewable energy usage to nearly 19% of its total power mix. It also became the first Indian metals and mining company to join the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), reinforcing its commitment to global environmental and social performance standards.
A part of the Vedanta Group, Hindustan Zinc is the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and among the top five silver producers globally, supplying to over 40 countries and holding around 77% share of India’s primary zinc market. The company has also introduced EcoZen, a low-carbon zinc brand produced using renewable energy, with a carbon footprint significantly below the global average.
