Manaksia Coated Metals & Industries Limited (NSE: MANAKCOAT, BSE: 539046) has initiated a planned shutdown of its Continuous Galvanizing Line at its Kutch, Gujarat facility to carry out a technology upgrade and capacity expansion. The project involves converting the line from conventional galvanised steel production to Aluminium-Zinc coated steel and increasing overall production capacity.
As part of the upgrade, the company is installing Aluminium-Zinc coating technology along with higher line speeds. Once completed, the annual installed capacity of the Continuous Galvanizing Line will increase from 132,000 metric tonnes to 180,000 metric tonnes, representing a capacity increase of approximately 36 percent. The shutdown began in December, with production of Aluminium-Zinc coated steel expected to stabilise from January 2026.
The upgraded line is expected to improve operating efficiency, increase productivity, and reduce coating costs per metric tonne while maintaining corrosion resistance. The conversion is also intended to improve energy efficiency and support a shift toward higher-value coated steel products. The company expects the upgrade to contribute positively to operating margins once production normalises.
Manaksia Coated Metals stated that the transition has been planned to minimise disruption to downstream operations. Production of pre-painted steel continues during the upgrade period, allowing the company to meet customer commitments while the galvanizing line is being upgraded.
Karan Agrawal, Whole-Time Director of Manaksia Coated Metals & Industries Limited, said the upgrade aligns with the company’s plans to strengthen its coated steel portfolio and manufacturing capabilities. He noted that Aluminium-Zinc coated steel has growing acceptance in both domestic and international markets and offers improved durability and broader application potential.
The company expects the upgraded line to support scalable volume growth, improve product mix, and strengthen its presence across export and domestic markets. The conversion also positions the business to respond to rising demand for Aluminium-Zinc coated products, which typically command higher pricing compared to conventional galvanised steel.
