Calderys has completed the commissioning of the basic monolithics production line at its newly established facility in Odisha. The addition of this line to its growing India portfolio will enable the company to deepen its footprint across major process industries while reinforcing its long-standing leadership in ironmaking refractories. This expanded range responds to rising demand from India’s iron and steel sector and nearby markets, positioning Calderys to support a broad network of industrial operations in the region over the coming year.

Commenting on the development, Michel Cornelissen, President and CEO of Calderys, said: “The commissioning of our second production line marks an important phase in our expansion across India’s evolving industrial landscape. CAPES represents the largest single-site investment in our company’s history, highlighting our confidence in India’s growth story and our commitment to strengthening our global manufacturing presence.”

Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, shared: “With rapid industrial growth and infrastructure development, India’s refractory sector is set for strong expansion. Through our Odisha facility, we aim to contribute to national self-reliance in advanced materials, supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, while raising the bar in sustainability, innovation and operational standards.”

Following the successful startup of the acidic monolithics line earlier this year, this latest milestone enhances production speed, volume and precision for refractory solutions designed for the steel industry. Upcoming phases include acidic and basic brick lines, with further production units under construction and expected to be operational by 2026.

Spread across 45 acres, the CAPES facility will eventually house six state-of-the-art production lines covering acidic and basic monolithics and bricks, steel casting fluxes and tap-hole clays, supported by advanced testing infrastructure. The plant will significantly boost Calderys’ capacity to cater to India’s expanding steel, cement, aluminium, petrochemical and mining sectors. By strengthening domestic manufacturing, it will reduce import dependence, generate skilled employment, foster innovation and reinforce India’s role in global supply chains.

Positioned close to key industrial centres and port facilities, CAPES ensures faster deliveries, responsive technical assistance and streamlined supply chains for Indian customers, while also functioning as a major export base for Southeast Asia, East Asia and the wider APAC region. Built in line with international environmental and performance benchmarks, the facility incorporates energy-efficient systems, water-saving technologies and sustainable manufacturing practices. Full commercial operations are planned to commence in the second half of 2026.
