Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global provider of end-to-end IoT technologies, has unveiled the KGM133S—its first module designed for Matter over Thread applications. The new product line is aimed at powering devices such as smart locks, sensors, and lighting systems, helping the smart home sector overcome long-standing connectivity challenges and move toward more streamlined, interoperable development. Built on the Silicon Labs EFR32MG24 platform and supporting the latest Matter 1.4 standard, the KGM133S series enables smooth communication between home devices across major ecosystems, including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings.
Delbert Sun, Deputy General Manager at Quectel Wireless Solutions, said the lack of a unified communication protocol continues to hinder smooth device interoperability. He noted that Matter plays a central role in eliminating these barriers, adding that the company’s new Thread-based modules are designed to support seamless integration across ecosystems. Sun also emphasized that Quectel will continue expanding its smart home portfolio in collaboration with industry partners to enhance user experiences and accelerate digital transformation.
By combining the strengths of Matter and Thread, the KGM133S series delivers resilient and scalable connectivity for a wide range of IoT scenarios. Thread, based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, supports globally unique IPv6 addressing and offers direct IP-based communication. Unlike Zigbee, Thread devices do not require gateways for complex conversions—they connect to the internet via a Border Router, reducing latency and simplifying network design. With low power consumption and high reliability, Thread has become a core technology supporting the broader Matter ecosystem.
The KGM133S lineup comes with 256KB SRAM and is available with Flash capacities of 1536KB, 2.5MB, and 3.5MB. These options enable developers to support today’s smart home requirements while keeping sufficient headroom for future Matter updates and feature expansions, helping products remain competitive over the long term.
The series integrates high performance, low power consumption, and compact dimensions, making it suitable for diverse IoT environments. Beyond Matter over Thread, the KGM133S series also supports Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth LE 6.0, offering developers additional flexibility. Secure Vault enhanced security is also embedded to strengthen device and data protection.
With its strong performance and adaptable architecture, the KGM133S series addresses the expanding needs of multi-scenario smart home connectivity while shaping the direction of future industry innovation. Quectel plans to continue expanding its Matter-compatible portfolio to meet evolving market demands and fuel ongoing technological advancement in the smart home sector.
